Fred Hargett joined UPMC in October 2023 as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Prior to joining UPMC, Hargett served for 15 years in that same role for Novant Health, Inc., a successful non-profit integrated health system headquartered in Winston-Salem, N.C., encompassing 16 medical centers, more than 1,900 physicians in more than 800 locations and numerous outpatient and community health programs.
During Hargett’s tenure as CFO, Novant Health grew from a $1.5 billion organization to an $8 billion organization, expanding clinical programs and services into more areas. Hargett had also served five years as financial planner and analyst, and executive vice president of finance. He spent more than seven years at Ernst & Young as a growth strategy advisor to health systems before joining Novant Health.
A native of Charlotte, NC, Hargett earned undergraduate degrees in public health and business administration, and a master’s degree in accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and is a certified public accountant.
