Dr. Bodnar’s research focuses on maternal nutritional status and birth outcomes, such as preterm birth and preeclampsia. Her particular subjects of interest in these areas include vitamin D deficiency, obesity, weight gain and the black-white disparity in pregnancy outcomes.
Dr. Bodnar is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Young Professional Achievement Award from the National Coalition for Excellence in Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology, which recognizes professionals under age 40 whose work is making substantial contributions to their field. She is also a recent recipient of the University of Pittsburgh 2013 Chancellor’s Distinguished Research Award in the Junior Scholar category.
