After three decades as the director of the New England Cardiac Arrhythmia Center, Dr. Estes joined UPMC in 2018. He has served as the president of the Heart Rhythm Society and Chair of the American Heart Association (AHA) Council of Clinical Cardiology. He serves as the editor-in-chief of the cardiovascular section of UpToDate, and on the editorial board of 11 journals. 

 

After earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Estes attended the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He trained in medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, in cardiology at Tufts Medical Center and in clinical cardiac electrophysiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. 

 

From 2017-2021, Dr. Estes served as chair the AHA Scientific Publishing Committee. He is on the American Board of Internal Medicine Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology and International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners Test Writing Committees. Recognized as a Best Doctor in Boston and Pittsburgh, Dr. Estes has authored over 600 publications, including authorship or co-authorship of nine books.
