Dr. Marazita’s research focuses on the genetics of cleft lip and palate, genetic and other factors contributing to oral health disparities in Appalachia, and the identification of maternal and fetal genetic factors in premature birth.

She has appeared in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Columbian, the Los Angeles Times and the Beijing People’s Daily News.

Dr. Marazita earned her doctorate from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1980
