​Dr. Kalarchian specializes in behavioral medicine. She studies the relationships among psychosocial factors and health behaviors in obese and severely obese patients, including binge eating, sedentary behavior and physical activity in both children and adults. 

Her research interests span the weight management spectrum, with a particular focus on preparing patients for bariatric surgery and optimizing long-term weight control.  Dr. Kalarchian has published extensively in her field, and has collaborated on several obesity research studies funded by the National Institutes of Health.

She received her undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and her doctorate in psychology from Rutgers University. She completed her internship and postdoctoral training at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC.

Dr. Kalarchian is an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Obesity Society, the American Heart Association and the Eating Disorder Research Society.
