Hillman Immunologist Receives Holzer Award

PITTSBURGH – UPMC Hillman Cancer Center immunologist Jason Luke, M.D., F.A.C.P., has been presented with the Sy Holzer Endowed Immunotherapy Research Fund Award to advance innovative research in cancer immunotherapy. 

Luke, a medical oncologist and clinical investigator, specializes in early phase drug development for melanoma and solid tumors. He has been the lead investigator for numerous immunotherapies over the past several years. As director of the newly established Cancer Immunotherapeutics Center within the UPMC Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy Program, he has oversight of all early phase immunotherapy studies. 

The Holzer Fund, now in its second year, was established to honor Holzer’s philanthropic work as the long-time president of PNC and his many years of service as chair of UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Council. The fund has been supported through leadership gifts made by many local and national individuals, foundations and corporations. 

Luke is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. He received his medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science/Chicago Medical School and completed his internship and residency at Boston University Medical Center, followed by fellowships at Weill Cornell Medical College and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. 

Dr. Luke has received multiple awards for research and clinical care, including the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Clinical Investigator Team Leadership Award, Melanoma Research Foundation Humanitarian Award, ASCO Merit Award, as well as Young Investigator Awards from the Melanoma Research Alliance, Cancer Research Foundation and Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO.
