WHAT: St. Margaret Foundation will host its annual Brian Demchak Hope Run/Walk 5k to help fill in the gaps with hope for the patients of UPMC St. Margaret. The race is named in memory of Brian Demchak, who with his mother, Marie Louise (Tina) Demchak, made it a family tradition to run in the Foundation's 5k until he passed away in January of 2016 at the age of 57.

Participants can register for FREE when they raise $50 or more with their online fundraising page, which they can create during registration. Individuals who pre-register by Sunday, May 12th will save $5 off the price of registration. To pre-register, visit StMargaretFoundation.org/5k. Race-day registration also will be available beginning at 7:30 a.m.

The race will start and finish adjacent to the “Plant the Seed of Hope Memorial Garden” of vibrant pink, yellow, orange and purple flower wind spinners. Participants can designate a spinner as a tribute to a loved one when they register, which they can then take home with them.

For those not running/walking, but who would like to honor someone, they can make a $35 donation now through Father’s Day to receive a spinner by visiting www.stmargaretfoundation.org/donate. Additionally, non-race participants who want to raise money can visit www.crowdrise.com/2019Hope5k

Immediately following the race, an after party will be held, including live music and free children’s activities, as well as a “Taste of Fox Chapel,” during which several local restaurants will provide free food samples.

WHY: The Hope Run helps to fill in the gaps with hope for under-resourced patients by providing such things as medicine, medical devices, insulin and transportation to and from chemotherapy/radiation treatments.

WHEN: 8:30 a.m., Sunday, May 19

WHERE: UPMC St. Margaret, 815 Freeport Rd., Pittsburgh, 15215.

Note to Media: To cover this event, pre-arrangements must be made by contacting Stephanie Stanley at 412-586-9762 or StanleySL@upmc.edu
