WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.UPMC Susquehanna, in celebration of two years of partnership with UPMC, today unveiled a plan to transform patient care through two major expansions. Backed by nearly $115 million in local investments and investments from UPMC, an all-new center of excellence for physical medicine and rehabilitation at UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center will complement UPMC’s advanced specialty care in northcentral Pa.

“Our partnership with UPMC has strategically positioned us for the future with robust investments in our facilities, clinical staff and leadership to guide our next chapter of convenient, safe, accessible and affordable care,” said Steven P. Johnson, president, UPMC Susquehanna. “And today, as we celebrate our two-year anniversary and look back at our tremendous success, we also look forward to our next great mission: our long-term commitment to transforming the future of health care in our region.”

The new center for excellence at UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport will extend from the UPMC Susquehanna Tower, creating a new four-story footprint to take the place of the current medical office building at 699 High St. The $100 million building will create the infrastructure needed in the operating rooms, medical and surgical suites, and critical care units to support the advanced life-saving and rehabilitation services necessary to provide full trauma services by 2020.

A $13 million investment will transform UPMC Susquehanna’s Cancer Center at Divine Providence into UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. With added space and a new patient-centric footprint, it will include physician exam rooms, open chemotherapy bays, private chemotherapy rooms, and additional office and support space designed to help improve the patient experience.

Synonymous with the best cancer care, research and physicians available anywhere in the world, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is the region’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and is consistently ranked in by U.S. News & World Report for excellence in cancer care. UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at UPMC Susquehanna will provide greater access to resources and progressive treatments to support cancer patients locally.

“UPMC Susquehanna is a shining example of UPMC’s mission to serve all our communities in the right way by creating new hospitals, new programs and new services to deliver innovative, high-quality and low-cost specialized care. It’s the flourishing expression of the health care of tomorrow,” said Jeffrey A. Romoff, president and chief executive officer, UPMC. “Today’s announcement of the new UPMC Hillman Cancer Center and the new trauma and critical care programs and facilities reflect both UPMC’s and UPMC Susquehanna’s commitment to extend life changing medicine to this region.”
