FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Williamsport, Pa. – UPMC Williamsport has been designated an Aetna Institute of Quality® orthopedic facility for total joint replacement.
The designation is awarded to hospitals and surgical centers that meet specific quality measures for joint replacement surgery, including low complication rates, fewer hospital readmissions, and strong patient outcomes following hip and knee replacement procedures.
“Hip and knee replacement surgery can be life-changing for people whose pain keeps them from doing the things they enjoy or need to do every day,” said John “Jack” Bailey, MD, orthopaedic surgeon, UPMC Orthopaedic Care in Williamsport. “Patients want to feel confident that they’re receiving safe, high-quality care, and it’s a bonus when it’s close to home. This designation reflects the commitment of our surgeons, nurses, therapists, and support staff to help patients recover, regain mobility, and return to the activities that matter most to them.”
For people living with chronic joint pain, limited mobility, or injuries that make everyday activities more difficult, choosing where to have surgery can be an important decision. Designations like this help patients identify facilities that have demonstrated consistent results and high standards of care.
Aetna evaluates facilities using measures related to patient safety, quality outcomes, and overall performance. The information is available to Aetna members to help them make informed decisions about their care.
