PITTSBURGH – Fifteen UPMC hospitals received A grades from The Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2018 Hospital Safety Grade. The Leapfrog Group is a national organization aiming to improve health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers.

“Throughout the UPMC system, our primary goal is to deliver the highest quality care in the safest manner possible,” said Tami Minnier, UPMC’s chief quality officer. “Receiving A grades at so many hospitals across the state is a testament to the commitment of UPMC staff to provide their patients with the best care every day.”

Of more than 2,600 hospitals rated by Leapfrog, 855 received A grades, the highest possible score, for their efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting rigorous safety standards, including these UPMC facilities:

  • UPMC Altoona
  • UPMC Bedford
  • UPMC East
  • UPMC Hamot
  • UPMC Horizon – Shenango
  • UPMC McKeesport
  • UPMC Northwest
  • UPMC Passavant – McCandless
  • UPMC Passavant – Cranberry
  • UPMC Pinnacle Carlisle
  • UPMC Pinnacle Community Osteopathic
  • UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg
  • UPMC Pinnacle Lititz
  • UPMC Pinnacle West Shore
  • UPMC Presbyterian

Twice per year, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assigns an A, B, C, D or F score to hospitals across the United States based on their ability to prevent medical errors, infections and other harms to patients in their care. Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available safety data to assess participating facilities.
