WELLSBORO, Pa. – UPMC in North Central Pa., with the support of several community partners, coordinated a free veteran's recognition meal on Thursday, Nov. 6, at VFW Post 4907 in Wellsboro.
“We know that food insecurity is a barrier in the communities we serve, especially for those who live in rural areas,” said Kari Kurtz, director, Community Relations, UPMC in North Central Pa. “This event is just one of the many that we’ve recently coordinated focusing on food insecurity and the impact that has on health. Our veterans are a special group and serving them is more than a single event; it is an ongoing commitment to holistically supporting their health and wellness. These events are just one opportunity of many, to say thank you and make sure that they’re okay.”
Representatives from the UPMC Community Relations and Suquehanna Health Foundation teams helped distribute 75 meals and recognition gifts to veterans and their family members.
This event was made possible in partnership with the Tioga County Office of Aging and generous contributions by sponsors to the Susquehanna Health Foundation. The meals were prepared and provided by John Ryan Brewery of Williamsport.
