WELLSBORO, Pa. – UPMC Wellsboro has upgraded its mammography technology, ensuring advanced breast imaging capabilities are accessible to patients close to home.
The new mammography machine is of the highest industry standard and includes updated software designed to support more precise imaging. The enhancement builds on UPMC Wellsboro’s existing high-quality mammography services while giving radiologists additional tools to review breast tissue in greater detail.
“This upgrade is an important investment in our hospital and for the patients we serve,” said Chad Tennis, manager, Imaging, UPMC Wellsboro. “This mammography technology makes it easier for patients to access advanced breast imaging close to home, with the quality and expertise they expect from UPMC.”
The system also includes computer-aided detection, or CAD, which highlights areas of interest for radiologists to evaluate more closely, an important benefit for patients with dense breast tissue, where overlapping tissue can make images more complex to interpret.
This technology is part of UPMC’s commitment to ensure state-of-the-art equipment is available to local communities and advances the practice of the imaging team at UPMC Wellsboro, helping staff continue to provide timely, high-quality care.
