WHAT: The Bridge to Hope, an outreach program of the Passavant Hospital Foundation, is sponsoring a lecture series for those impacted by a loved one’s addiction. All sessions are free, anonymous and open to the public. No reservations necessary
WHY: The Bridge to Hope Family Support Group’s mission is to educate and support families confronted with substance abuse and addiction so they will know they do not walk alone. The group is generally oriented toward wellness by providing group members with information, coping and problem-solving skills.
WHEN: 7 to 8:30 p.m., on the following Wednesdays
• Feb. 17 – Medication Assisted Treatment
Neil A. Capretto, D.O., D.F.A.S.A.M., medical director, Gateway Rehab, and a medical review officer and Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Capretto will discuss various addiction treatment options.
• March 16 – Hitting Bottom and Other Deadly Myths Surrounding Substance Use Disorders
Antoine Douaihy, M.D., professor of psychiatry, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and medical director, Addiction Medicine Services at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC, will discuss myths and misunderstandings of substance use disorders.
• April 20 – Next Steps for Women After Leaving a Treatment Facility
Carol Haley-Smith, of POWER (Pennsylvania Organization for Women in Early Recovery), is program manager for the Halfway House residential program. Ms. Haley-Smith will discuss the various types of post-treatment housing options, as well as the Mentoring Program at POWER. Joining her will be another POWER Mentor for this discussion.
