PITTSBURGH, July 29, 2010 – UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) announced today the appointment of Sean Logan to the newly created role of vice president of community relations. Currently state senator, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, he will lead the integration of UPMC’s community relations programs and be a liaison to the many communities served by UPMC’s hospitals and programs. Sen. Logan will join UPMC on Sept. 1.

For 10 years, Sen. Logan has held leadership positions in the state Senate, including caucus secretary of the Senate Democratic Caucus, minority chairman of the Law and Justice Committee and member of the Appropriations Committee. He also has served as a marketing consultant to the law firm Cohen and Grigsby for eight years.

“Senator Logan’s public service and community leadership experience make him uniquely qualified to further develop UPMC’s strong community relationships,” said Robert J. Cindrich, senior vice president and chief legal officer, UPMC. “He will be instrumental in identifying issues and opportunities within the many diverse communities that UPMC serves.”

Sen. Logan is a member of the boards of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, City of Pittsburgh/Allegheny County Sports and Exhibition Authority, and the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Greater Monroeville. Prior to his election to the state Senate, he served as mayor of Monroeville, preceded by a position as director, Department of Consumer Protection, Allegheny County.

Sen. Logan holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Pittsburgh.
