Treatment for ADHD in Children and Adolescents

A variety of treatment options are available for children and adolescents at our UPMC Western Psychiatric outpatient locations.

With treatment, many people with ADHD are successful and productive at school, work, and in their daily lives.

Treatments are informed by research and are reviewed on a regular basis, so updates and adjustments may be made on the basis of patient need.

Comprehensive Assessment

  • Determine the nature of the individual's ADHD (specific problem areas, history of the problems).
  • Identification of other mental health concerns that may be present.
  • Determine the impact of ADHD symptoms on school, work, home, relationships, self-esteem, etc.
  • Collection of information from several sources, such as family, teachers, friends, and co-workers.
  • Collection of medical history.
  • Integration of all information for initial diagnosis and treatment planning.
