What Is a Shared Medical Appointment?
A Shared Medical Appointment (SMA) is a group visit where several patients meet with a provider at the same time. These visits help patients learn more about weight management and get started sooner in the program.
This SMA lasts about 90 minutes. It covers important information about obesity, treatment options, nutrition, exercise, medications, and program services. It helps to lay the foundation for patients to be successful in their weight loss plan.
After this first visit, your appointments will be individualized and one-on-one with your provider and dietitian.

How are Shared Medical Appointments Billed?
All shared appointments are billed through insurance when applicable.
SMAs are billed like a regular specialist appointment and may include copays, deductibles, or other costs based on your insurance plan.
During your SMA, we will review insurance information with you and provide a guide to help you understand what questions to ask your insurance company before future appointments.
