Research

Center for Endometriosis and Chronic Pelvic Pain

Endometriosis and pelvic pain affect as many as 1 in 10 women. These conditions are often misdiagnosed.

Our center provides gynecologic, psychiatric, and pelvic floor care. We conduct research through tissue sample collection and resource coordination.

We conduct clinical research trials to find new ways to prevent pregnancies and stop the spread of sexually transmitted infections.

Gynecologic Cancer Research

Our researchers are pioneers in the field of gynecologic cancer.

Current research includes:

Management of ovarian cancer — Including biological therapies and the use of PET-CT imaging.
Prevention strategies — Including cancer vaccines and the development of new ovarian cancer biomarkers.
Sentinel node mapping — To manage cervical and uterine cancers.

Obstetric-Fetal Pharmacology Research Center

We study the safety and use of medicines in women during pregnancy and breastfeeding. UPMC Magee is one of only three centers in the U.S. to conduct clinical studies and research in this area.

Perinatal Biology Group

We study the development of the early embryo and placenta. The end goal is healthier pregnancies and fetal development.

Residencies and Fellowships

UPMC Magee offers many clinical fellowship programs.

They include:

Programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education

Addiction Medicine Fellowship — A one-year position open to applicants from ob-gyn.
Complex Family Planning — A two-year academic fellowship for those who’ve completed ob-gyn residency training.
Gynecologic Oncology — A three-year-program with two positions available each year. You must have completed an ob-gyn residency program.
Laboratory Genetics and Genomics — A two-year fellowship with one person accepted each year. It combines lab training with practical work in genetics clinics.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine — A three-year program with three available positions each year. You must have completed an ACGME-accredited residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility — A three-year program with one position available each year. You must have completed an ACGME-accredited residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery — A three-year program for those who’ve completed residency ob-gyn training. A two-year program is available for those who’ve completed residency training in urology.

Other Fellowships

Complex Benign Gynecology — A two-year fellowship focused on noncancerous conditions. There are two positions available each year.
Family Medicine OB Fellowship — A 13-month fellowship on prenatal and obstetric care.
Reproductive Infectious Diseases Fellowship — A two-year program with one position available each year.
