The Heart and Vascular Institute at UPMC Passavant coordinates the evaluation of cardiovascular issues with patients, related to screening and evaluation of risk factors for coronary disease, as well as more complicated treatment that may need to be done.

Personalized Patient Care

A key part of personalized patient care is excellent communication among a patient’s specialists, and particularly their primary care provider. By having the Heart and Vascular Institute at UPMC Passavant, and the ability for the cardiac and cardiac surgery and vascular surgery specialists to see patients in one location, this strongly enhances this communication and allows for a more efficient, thorough evaluation of the patient.

Physician Expertise

The physicians at the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute at UPMC Passavant are part of the broader Heart and Vascular Institute within UPMC systemwide. As such, we work very closely together with these physicians and can provide the expertise to any patient at Passavant who needs to be seen. The real advantage to the patient is that this care can be delivered right at Passavant and these physicians can come and see the patients here.

State-of-the-Art Technology

The technology that we have here at UPMC Passavant is truly state of the art. We have the ability to image both the structure and function of the heart with echocardiography and nuclear cardiology. In addition, the electrophysiologic services that we can deliver, both in terms of ablation and testing, is state of the art, as well as minimally invasive cardiac surgery. Imaging that has been done off this campus can all be viewed through the medical record as well, which is an advantage to the patient.

Coordination of Care

The advantages to a patient of coming to the UPMC Passavant Heart and Vascular Institute are that it enables the patient to have a coordination of their care among the various specialists that would take care of their problem, be it cardiologists, electrophysiologists, vascular surgeons, or cardiac surgeons, and it allows that care to be delivered in one location for follow-up visits, as well as for testing.
