Bruce R. Pitt, PhD

Description

Dr. Pitt’s research focuses on the molecular and cellular biology of the lung, particularly the role of antioxidants and nitric oxide in affecting lung function. He’s also looking at gene therapy for acute and chronic lung disease. His recent work involves examining the role of zinc in cell functioning.

The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health seeks to learn how environmental factors and people’s susceptibility to pollution attributes to acute and chronic diseases.

Dr. Pitt is a member of the National Institutes of Health’s National Heart Lung and Blood Institute; on the editorial board for the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology; and is associate editor of the American Journal of Physiology Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology.

Dr. Pitt holds a Ph.D. in environmental physiology from Johns Hopkins University.
