​Dr. Shestak's area of concentration includes breast surgery, breast augmentation and breast lifts and all problems related to implants as well as breast reconstruction. He has performed more than 1,000 implant procedures during his career. He is nationally and internationally recognized for his expertise in the areas of abdominoplasty and body sculpting (liposuction) and is a regular faculty member at national plastic surgery meetings. He was awarded the honor of being the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation's Visiting Professor for the year 2003 during which time he lectured at Universities around the country as well as in Argentina and Korea.

Dr. Shestak has done a wide array of research, including detection of silicone implant leakage, the medical effectiveness of breast reconstruction and is a principal investigator for a new type of silicone gel breast implant.

A nationally renowned surgeon, Dr. Shestak has been published in more than 60 publications and authored or co-authored 19 book chapters. He is the author of a widely used textbook, "Re-operative Plastic Surgery of the Breast."

A past member of the editorial board of Annals of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Shestak has refereed for several journals, including Head and Neck, American Journal of Otolaryngology and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Shestak received his medical degree from Tufts University and did his internship at UCLA Medical Center and general surgery residency at Tufts New England Medical Center. He came to the University of Pittsburgh in 1983 to complete his residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
