In addition to his surgical interest in hand transplantation, Dr. Goitz’s research interests include osteoarthritis of the hand, carpal tunnel syndrome, forearm biomechanics and wrist injuries.
Dr. Goitz is an associate professor of orthopaedic surgery and of plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and associate professor of bioengineering at Pitt’s Swanson School of Engineering. He volunteers with the National Disability Sport Alliance and is a member of the American Orthopaedic Association, American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society.
Chosen for the “Best Doctors in America” list every year since 2005, Dr. Goitz has authored or contributed to more than 70 publications and has given more than 35 scientific presentations. He also serves as a medical consultant to the University of Pittsburgh Athletics Department.
After graduating from Boston University with a degree in biomedical engineering, Dr. Goitz received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University. He then completed an internship and residency at UPMC and a fellowship at the Indiana Hand Center in Indianapolis.
