Greensburg, Pa. – Greensburg residents will now have expanded access to high-quality UPMC spine care close to home, at a newly opened multi-disciplinary clinic, co-located with the UPMC GoHealth Urgent Care in Greensburg. The clinic is staffed with a team of three orthopaedic surgeons, a neurosurgeon and a pain medicine physician.Patients with neck or back pain, as well as arm or leg pain, spinal disorders, pinched nerves, spinal stenosis and herniated discs can now receive enhanced specialty care close to home. By bringing orthopaedic spine surgery, neurosurgery and pain management together in one location, patients can receive coordinated evaluation and treatment without unnecessary delays or travel.
Providing increased access to world-class care by co-locating specialty clinics with urgent care access is one of many opportunities made possible through the UPMC-GoHealth Urgent Care partnership announced last year. The clinic is also conveniently located in the same shopping center as a UPMC Rehabilitation Institute outpatient site, further enhancing access and care coordination.
“As the demand for UPMC’s services continues to grow in our communities, we are committed to providing care that is both exceptional and accessible,” said Amy Meister, D.O., president of UPMC Community and Ambulatory Services. “By ensuring continued access to comprehensive spine care with an expanded panel of providers, we're making it easier for individuals to access specialized treatment, reducing the need for long-distance travel and supporting their health where it matters most.” The move comes on the heels of the retirement of Michael Rutigliano, M.D., an accomplished neurosurgeon who has served the Greensburg community for more than 30 years. UPMC is ensuring continuity of care while expanding access to additional subspecialty expertise.

The providers who will see patients at this location bring a breadth and depth of experience that is unmatched elsewhere in the Laurel Highlands region.
Steven Agabegi, M.D., is an orthopaedic spine surgeon with expertise in cervical, thoracic and lumbar conditions ranging from degenerative disease to spinal deformity and complex revision surgery. With more than two decades of experience, he helps patients with nerve and spine disorders regain function and quality of life. He operates at UPMC East and UPMC Somerset.
Kathryn S. Hoes, M.D., is a neurosurgeon who specializes in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery, treating patients with advanced and challenging spine conditions. With a patient-centered and humanistic approach, she focuses on helping patients feel heard, informed and confident in their care. She operates at UPMC East.
Jacob Shipley, M.D., specializes in pain medicine with a focus on nonsurgical, minimally invasive treatments for spine-related conditions. Grounded in a multidisciplinary and patient-centered approach, he works closely with rehabilitation, imaging and surgical teams to deliver coordinated care that reduces reliance on chronic medications.
Vincent Silvaggio, M.D., is an orthopaedic spine surgeon offering comprehensive care for conditions affecting the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. With more than 30 years of experience, he brings deep clinical expertise to the evaluation and surgical treatment of spine conditions. He operates at UPMC St. Margaret.
Patrick Smith, M.D., is an orthopaedic spine surgeon who treats a wide range of cervical and lumbar spine conditions, including neck and low back pain, spinal stenosis, sciatica and nerve-related disorders. He practices in close collaboration with pain management and rehabilitation specialists to support comprehensive treatment planning. He operates at UPMC St. Margaret.
