WHAT: UPMC St. Margaret and the St. Margaret Foundation are hosting a free, virtual Alive & Well health presentation where participants will learn about various vaping devices and how they work, as well as the real dangers and side effects of using these products. Questions can be privately submitted using a “Q&A” feature any time during the live presentation.

Registration is available at UPMC.com/VirtualEvents. Registrants will be sent a confirmation email with access to view the live, virtual presentation.

WHY: E-cigarettes can release dangerous chemicals and trace metals into the lungs that cause heart and lung disease. Inhaling e-cigarettes—known as vaping—has even been linked to a greater risk of COVID-19 infection. Yet far too many kids, teens and young adults still believe that vaping is safer than traditional cigarette smoking.

WHO: UPMC St. Margaret staff:

  • Carmen Allmond, R.R.T., respiratory therapist
  • Mark Normile, director of respiratory services

WHEN: 10 a.m., Friday, May 21
