PITTSBURGH – Fifteen UPMC hospitals received A grades from The Leapfrog Group’s Spring 2019 Hospital Safety Grade. The Leapfrog Group is a national organization aiming to improve health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers.

“Providing the safest, highest quality care is at the core of all we do at UPMC,” said Tami Minnier, UPMC’s chief quality officer. “Receiving this recognition from Leapfrog is a testament to the commitment of our physicians, nurses and staff to create the best possible experience and outcomes for every patient.”

Of more than 2,600 hospitals rated by Leapfrog across the country, 855 received an A grade, the highest possible score, for proven efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting rigorous safety standards.

According to The Leapfrog Group, hospital patient safety rankings can be a life-or-death matter with hospitals graded “A” saving more lives. The 15 UPMC hospitals earning an A grade for Spring 2019 include:

  • UPMC Altoona
  • UPMC Bedford
  • UPMC Hamot
  • UPMC Horizon – Greenville

Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available safety data to assess participating facilities.
