WHAT: UPMC Mercy is hosting its 8th annual Wheelchair Wash and Tune-Up event. Volunteers from the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute will be onsite to wash and perform minor repairs, as well as evaluate potential problems with the wheelchairs.
Admission, wheelchair maintenance, refreshments and parking are free. RSVP by June 1 on the Wheelchair Wash website.
WHY: Wheelchair maintenance is important to ensure the safety of wheelchair users. Event attendees can play games, participate in a wheelchair skills obstacle course and visit with local vendors, including the Center for Assistive Technology, Human Engineering Research Laboratories and the UPMC Disability Resource Center.
