WHAT: University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine will host its 24th Annual White Coat Ceremony to celebrate the class of 2022. Pitt Schools of the Health Sciences will issue the white coats, which are donated by the Pitt Medical Alumni Association. The ceremony will feature performances by the Pittsburgh Ballet, Pittsburgh Symphony and Pittsburgh Opera.

WHY: The White Coat Ceremony is a symbolic event marking the entry of first-year students into the medical profession. Students of the Class of 2022 will be individually cloaked in white clinicians’ coats and publicly declare their commitment to integrity, ethical behavior and honor by reciting the Hippocratic Oath.

WHO:

  • Keynote speaker: Susan Koeppen, KDKA-TV news anchor. Susan will share details of how her life was saved in 2012 by two Pitt medical students.
  • Freddie Fu, M.D., and Hilda Pang Fu, ceremony hosts and sponsors. Dr. Freddie Fu will lead the medical student class in recitation of the Hippocratic Oath.
  • University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine faculty, alumni, students and their families.

WHEN: 11 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 12th
