WHAT: UPMC St. Margaret presents a discussion where participants can learn to manage their diabetes through proper dental care. Tips on how to properly brush and floss, what to look for when purchasing a toothbrush and guidance on which toothpaste is best will be provided. In addition, information on treating dry mouth, cold sores and taste changes, and ways to avoid infections, gingivitis and periodontal disease will be discussed.

 

Participants will receive a free gift. Light refreshments will be served and parking will be validated.

WHY: According to the American Diabetes Association, there is an increased prevalence of gum disease among those with diabetes. Maintaining oral hygiene can help with the management of diabetes and reduce the risk of dental health complications.
