WHAT: The UPMC Centers for Diabetes Education and Support at UPMC St. Margaret is hosting “Traveling Smart with Diabetes,” where Hugo Lin, M.D., endocrinologist, will provide helpful hints to make traveling with diabetes safe and comfortable. Light refreshments will be provided, and parking will be validated.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • What to ask your doctor before a big trip.
  • What to do if your blood glucose goes too high or too low.
  • How to choose comfortable shoes to protect your feet.
  • Safely storing diabetes medicine.
  • Establishing a travel checklist.

Registration is required and can be done by calling 412-784-5162.

WHY: The more a person learns about their diabetes, the better they can control their blood glucose level and avoid complications. Being educated on the best practices for traveling with diabetes can eliminate potential issues and make the experience more enjoyable.

WHO: The program is free and open to the public.

WHEN: 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19
