CHP exterior featurePITTSBURGHUPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh has been recognized again as one of the Most Innovative Children's Hospitals by Parents magazine.

UPMC Children’s Hospital was selected as one of the 15 most innovative children’s hospitals and will appear in the January issue of the magazine and online today at www.parents.com/InnovativeHospitals

UPMC Children’s is recognized for research into the continuing development of gene therapy technology, which may have the potential to cure diabetes, led by George Gittes, M.D., director of the Richard King Mellon Foundation Institute for Pediatric Research and co-scientific director at UPMC Children’s.

“At UPMC Children’s, we continue to collaborate in innovative ways that give our patients and families the hope they need,” said Mark Sevco, president, UPMC Children’s. “Dr. Gittes’ promising gene therapy treatment technology for diabetes holds the potential to provide long-term effectiveness, with promise to be a cure for diabetic patients.”

To determine the winners, PARENTS editors surveyed 50 leading children’s hospitals, inquiring about innovations, response to the pandemic and technology used on a regular basis. More than 200 innovations were submitted overall. Members of the PARENTS advisory board helped determine the final selections.

“In a time when health care workers have never been more essential or more appreciated, PARENTS sought to highlight the extraordinary efforts of children’s hospitals—not only in relation to the pandemic, but in all areas of research and medical advancement benefiting kids and families,” said Julia Edelstein, editor-in-chief of PARENTS. “Whether or not your child ever requires hospitalization, reading about these incredible institutions will fill your heart with hope, gratitude and awe.”
