WHAT: Girls on the Run of Magee-Womens Hospital, a 12-week program encouraging physical activity and positive life skills, will host a celebratory 5K event to mark the end of its season. Girls in grades 3 through 8 will run alongside friends and community members, and take part in pre- and post-run activities, including a visit from local mascots, music, games and a raffle.
 
The event is open to the public, and the cost of registration is $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the 5K. All runners receive an event shirt. To register or to view more information, visit the Magee Girls on the Run website.
 
WHY: For 20 years, Girls on the Run International has encouraged young girls. Volunteer coaches train all-girl teams of runners while promoting confidence, teamwork and community service. Magee’s Girls on the Run program has served more than 12,000 girls over 16 seasons.
