PITTSBURGH, November 5, 2001 — Elizabeth Concordia has been appointed president of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Presbyterian and Shadyside hospitals, announced University of Pittsburgh Medical Center President Jeffrey Romoff.
“As president of UPMC Presbyterian and UPMC Shadyside, Ms. Concordia will focus on enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of existing clinical programs and developing new ones,” said Romoff. “At the forefront of her responsibilities, she will work with the hospitals' medical staffs and leadership to strengthen their quality clinical services while maintaining high patient satisfaction and improving customer service.”
“My passion for health care is the patients. By working together with the physicians and staff at UPMC Presbyterian and Shadyside, we can achieve our goals while making a lasting impact on health care,” Concordia said.
Concordia has more than a decade of experience in the administration of academic medical centers. She comes to Pittsburgh after two years as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore. She held several other positions at Bayview including vice president, senior director, and director of clinical service and clinical information systems. Prior to Bayview she was associate director for the Montefiore Medical Center, the Jack D. Weiler Hospital of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. She also was manager of Healthcare Information Systems and senior consultant at Ernst & Young in Washington, D.C.
She holds a master's degree in administrative science management from John Hopkins University and an undergraduate degree from Duke University.
She is a member of several professional societies including the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Hospital Information Management Systems Society and the Maryland Association of Health Care Executives.
Concordia and her husband, Michael and their three children reside in Fox Chapel.
