WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — UPMC in North Central Pa. hosted its annual High School Career Expo at the Liberty Arena on Wednesday, April 10.
More than 200 high school students from Montgomery Area, Hughesville Area, Montoursville Area, Jersey Shore Area, Canton Area, St. John Neumann Regional Academy, Sullivan County Area, Loyalsock Township, and Williamsport Area School Districts attended the event.
The event is meant to help high school students find a career pathway in the health care industry, either clinical or non-clinical. The students visited with and learned from dozens of departments, including Susquehanna Regional EMS (SREMS), UPMC Rehabilitation Institute, Family Medicine Residency, Heart and Vascular Institute, Senior Communities, Food and Nutrition, and more. The students learned skills like CPR, how to read an EKG, and how to care for an individual with a trach tube. The high schoolers were able to gain hands-on experience with medical devices and even participated in a mock cardiac arrest led by SREMS.
