WHAT: It can be difficult to maintain good health when living with diabetes. The Diabetes Support Group at UPMC St. Margaret provides free education about managing diabetes to persons with diabetes and/or family members or caregivers. In addition, patients will learn how to set specific goals that can be broken down into manageable steps, also known as the S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) goals method, an easy way to work toward a healthier lifestyle.

Before starting on any new plan, participants should discuss their diabetes health goals with their health care provider.

Free parking and refreshments will be available.

Registration is required. Call 412-784-5162 or 412-784-4195 or register online at UPMC.com/Classes.

WHY: Knowing how to successfully manage diabetes can seriously impact the quality of life for those living with the disease. Having a support group to help organize goals can be beneficial to achieving a healthy lifestyle and reducing the risk of complications due to improper care.

WHEN: 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursdays:  March 21, May 16, Sept. 19, Nov. 21.
