UPMC Teleconsult Center, located in Uniontown, Pa., will opens for patients today, bringing numerous specialty services to that region using telemedicine technology.
Recognized as a leader in advancing new models of care delivery, UPMC has been expanding patient access to world-class specialty services through multiple UPMC Teleconsult Centers in communities that previously lacked such care. UPMC identified a lack of specialty medical services in the Uniontown area, about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh.
“A key element of UPMC’s telehealth mission is bringing world-class care close to home,” said Stephanie Hughes, telehealth project manager. “For Uniontown patients, the Teleconsult Center will bring expertise where it is needed using the latest technology, while eliminating a lengthy commute, expense and stress for our patients.”
After being referred to the center by their physicians, patients will be able to visit the UPMC Teleconsult Center at Uniontown for outpatient treatment across several specialty service lines, being rolled out over the next several months:
- Diabetes education for pregnant patients
- Reproductive endocrinology
- Maternal fetal medicine
- Bariatric surgery
- UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute
The Uniontown Teleconsult Center is located at 201 Mary Higginson Lane, Uniontown, Pa., 15401.
UPMC operates five other Teleconsult Centers across Pennsylvania in Altoona, Bedford, Hermitage, Seneca and Erie. Since the launch of the initial center, more than 3,000 patient visits have occurred across 34 subspecialty services.
