Endocrinology Fellowships at UPMC

UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine train endocrinology fellows from around the world.

With NIH funding and a large endocrine patient base, the Pitt School of Medicine is a top choice for fellows.

We prepare graduates who plan to:

  • Do clinical practice in endocrinology (including surgery).
  • Become doctor-educators.
  • Do endocrinology research.

Fellows practice at UPMC hospitals and outpatient clinics in southwest Pa.

Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship

Receive in-depth training in a broad range of diseases of endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism.

The two-year endocrinology and metabolism fellowship program accepts five people each year. It's for doctors already trained and board eligible in internal medicine.

Fellows do 14 months of clinical training and eight months of research training. Those who want to pursue a career in academic medicine can extend their training for one to two years.

Obesity Medicine Fellowship

Get in-depth training in the broad range of diseases that either cause obesity, or that obesity causes or affects. The obesity medicine fellowship program also focuses on treating obesity.

This one-year program currently accepts one fellow per year. It's for doctors already trained and board eligible in internal medicine.

The training includes both research and clinical practice. Fellows can extend their training beyond the year if they plan to pursue a career in academic medicine.
