Critical Incident and Employee Counseling Services at UPMC in Central PA

A critical incident is any event that may cause an individual or group of people to have unusually strong emotional reactions that may interfere with daily normal functions.

Examples include (but are not limited to):

  • Death of a coworker or family member
  • Assault or violence in the workplace
  • Layoffs or closings
  • Unexpected medical outcomes

Even after the event is over, individuals may continue to experience strong emotional or physical reactions. CISM can help lessen this impact. PHPA provides stress management education and/or intervention to the employees of UPMC in Central Pa. as well as other agencies, schools and employers.

This program provides confidential, professional counseling to help UPMC employees and their families resolve problems that affect their personal lives and/or job performance. Regardless of your position within the organization, you may face a variety of problems in your daily life that affect your well-being, personal relationships, effectiveness at work or even your health. Our employee counseling service is here to help.

PHPA provides employee counseling services to any UPMC employee in Central Pa, the employee's spouse or partner, and immediate family members living in the employee's home under the age of 14.
