Are You at High Risk?

The risk for developing breast cancer is dependent on many factors. Age, family history, ethnicity and lifestyle are among the things that impact your risk. If you are concerned that you may have an increased risk of breast cancer or have questions regarding your future risk based on your family history, the High Risk Breast Clinic at our Breast Care Center can help answer your questions and guide you through ways to reduce your risk. We also have a team of specialists who provide screening and education for patients at increased risk for breast or ovarian cancer.

A visit to our High Risk Clinic includes our genetic counselor and nurse practitioner, and breast surgeon if needed. Additional consultations are with Gynecological Oncology and Medical Oncology specialists may also be made. Breast imaging may be scheduled in conjunction with your consultations. Counseling regarding your risk will include a review of family history, personalized risk assessment and discussion of surveillance and genetic testing and treatment options. At the end of your visit, you will have an individualized care plan that includes recommendations for regular screening and medical and surgical risk-reduction options.

To determine whether or not you are at High Risk, please answer the following questions. If you answer “yes” to any of these questions, you may be at an increased risk for developing breast or ovarian cancer and would benefit from a more in-depth assessment in our High Risk Breast Clinic.
