Investing in State-of-the-Art Facilities
UPMC is bringing life-changing medicine to Harrisburg and the surrounding outlying communities in central Pennsylvania. In York and Mechanicsburg, UPMC is growing services and opening state-of-the-art facilities, including the newly constructed UPMC Memorial and the expanded UPMC Pinnacle West Shore.
UPMC Memorial

UPMC Memorial opened for patients in August 2019, and with 36 percent more space than the former facility, it is meeting the growing health care needs of York, Pennsylvania, and the surrounding communities. Built from the ground up, the hospital is a state-of-the-art facility offering expanded specialty services, including acute and emergency medical care, advanced cardiology and vascular services, obstetrics, chronic disease management, and surgical services. Adjacent to the hospital is a new five-level outpatient center, offering ambulatory surgery, outpatient imaging, a sleep lab, an infusion center, and community meeting rooms.
UPMC Pinnacle West Shore

UPMC Pinnacle is expanding its West Shore hospital in Cumberland County. Constructed in 2014, the hospital was designed with a view toward future expansion as community needs grow. Plans for additional patient floors include a safe area within the Emergency Department for behavioral health patients, surgical services with new operating rooms, and additional ICU beds.

UPMC Health Plan also understands that members want care when and where they need it. Through telehealth, members now have access to quality care from UPMC at the touch of button, as well as self-directed mobile apps that given them support when then need it.
Combatting Childhood Obesity through Education
UPMC Pinnacle has partnered with Harrisburg area schools to combat childhood obesity through education. Initiatives include Healthy Food Alternatives and Taste Experiences, the Eat Smart, Play Smart Program, and the Energy Pack Program.

Offering Lead Prevention Education and Home Inspections
In October 2019, the city of Harrisburg received a $5.6 million federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant to help remove lead-based paint from homes and reduce lead exposure for children and families in high-need areas. To assist with this initiative, the UPMC Pinnacle Lead Poisoning Prevention and Education Program (LPPEP) offers lead prevention education and environmental home inspections to families of affected children.
Even low levels of lead in blood have been shown to lead to multiple educational, behavioral, and medical problems, and the effects of lead exposure cannot be corrected. Providing education and interventions to prevent toxic lead levels before negative outcomes occur is vital to the prevention of lead poisoning. Lead poisoning prevention and lead education information via phone, and literature about lead prevention, is free for all, and client referrals are welcomed.
