Tackling COVID-19 in the Community

In March 2020, a UPMC virology team developed a COVID-19 test that returns results in 24 hours  enabling UPMC to open specimen collection sites across the system. 

In April 2020, UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh announced a potential vaccine for COVID-19. Researchers were able to act quickly, building on previous experience with closely related viruses.

UPMC Health Plan Removes Barriers to COVID-19 Testing and Treatment

To ensure no UPMC Health Plan member faces a financial barrier to receiving needed testing, UPMC waived any applicable deductibles, copayments, or other cost-sharing for COVID-19 testing and in-network, inpatient COVID-19 treatment.
