An E-Visit is an online visit with a primary care provider that can be used as an alternative to a traditional office visit for certain non-emergency conditions. This is a fast, affordable, and secure way to receive an online diagnosis and treatment plan for common medical conditions.
E-Visits are available through the UPMC Central PA Portal patient portal for any adult who currently has an established relationship with a UPMC physician or advanced practice provider.

You must be an established patient and have a Central PA Portal account to complete an E-Visit.
E-Visits cost $38. You may pay with a credit or debit card, or with a health savings account. Check directly with your insurance company to confirm.
To request an E-Visit log into your Central PA Portal account. Navigate to Schedule an Appointment and click on E-Visit. You can create a Central PA Portal account if you don't have one.
E-Visits are available 24/7 for you to submit. You will receive a response within 24 hours during normal business hours.
E-Visits are not for emergencies. If you have an urgent medical need, call 911 — or visit your nearest emergency department or urgent care facility.
All questionnaires are reviewed by UPMC providers in central Pa. — doctors or advanced practice providers. The name of the provider who reviews your E-Visit will be on the return message and in the portal on any diagnosis added to your chart.
You’ll be treated by a UPMC provider in central Pa. who is available at the moment you need care. Your regular primary care provider will have access to your diagnosis and treatment plan in your medical record.
Depending on how you respond to certain questions about your condition, you may be advised to seek in-person care. Additionally, if you complete and submit your E-Visit but your provider deems your condition inappropriate for an E-Visit, they’ll let you know via a Central PA Portal message.
No. You’ll only be charged for your online UPMC provider visit if you receive an online diagnosis and treatment plan.
Each HSA has different rules on the different types of medical expenses that can be used for. Most of HSA accounts should be used to pay for E-Visit. We recommend you check with your HSA administrator to confirm.
Yes. Your provider can prescribe medications if you need them and send the online prescriptions directly to the pharmacy of your choice.
You never need to use video for E-Visits, but you can add a picture to help providers understand what’s going on for your conditions. When requested, you can upload pictures from your mobile device or computer.

No. To ensure your privacy and safety, each person must have a separate Central PA Portal account for all purposes, including online doctor visits.
