A mental health crisis is often overwhelming and scary.
At UPMC Hanover's Behavioral Health Unit (BHU), our staff knows the need for comfort and security during such a time.
The BHU is a vital resource for anyone who needs help during a mental health crisis. We care for children, teens, and adults.
Access the secured unit through the UPMC Hanover Emergency Department entrance.
Call the BHU at 717-316-5423. Or text or call 988 — the National Suicide and Crisis Support Lifeline — if you're having an urgent mental health need.
When you arrive at the BHU, you'll fill out a questionnaire.
The results help us learn the right level and type of care you need, which may include:
The team will work with you on a personal treatment plan that meets your needs during your short-term stay.
We'll also discuss your long-long term goals and design a treatment plan to support you when you leave the BHU. This may include going to another center for more treatment.
