McCANDLESS AND CRANBERRY TOWNSHIPS, Pa. — UPMC Passavant has been ranked the No. 2 hospital in the Pittsburgh region behind No. 1 ranked UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside, in the annual U.S. News & World Report 2026-2027 Best Hospitals listing. Moving up from its No. 3 regional ranking last year, Passavant is the No. 16 hospital in Pennsylvania.
UPMC Passavant's recognition reinforces its continued transformation into a destination for advanced specialty care. Over the past several years, the hospital has expanded access to complex care services across its McCandless Township and Cranberry Township hospitals and surrounding outpatient centers, strengthening its role as a regional hub for specialized care.

These investments have enabled residents of Butler, Beaver, Lawrence and surrounding communities and northern Allegheny County to access more advanced care locally at UPMC Passavant. The Pittsburgh metro area for U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings is an eight-county region including Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Lawrence, Washington and Westmoreland counties.
Additionally, U.S. News recognized UPMC Passavant as high performing in 11 procedures and conditions:
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair
- Back surgery (spinal fusion)
- Colon cancer surgery
- Heart attack care
- Heart bypass surgery
- Hip replacement
- Knee replacement
- Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma care
- Lung cancer surgery
- Prostate cancer surgery
- Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)
To determine its annual Best Hospitals rankings, U.S. News evaluated hospitals nationwide using objective measures including risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and patient experience. A "high performing" designation indicates a hospital scored significantly above the national average in a specialty, procedure or condition.
