PITTSBURGH – UPMC today announced the appointment of Mark O’Hern as President of UPMC East and UPMC McKeesport.
O’Hern succeeds Mark Sevco, who recently was promoted to Chief Operating Officer of UPMC Pinnacle in central Pennsylvania.
“It is testament to the depth of leadership acumen we have fostered at UPMC that we are able to fill key positions like this from within our own ranks,” said Leslie Davis, Senior Vice President, UPMC, and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, UPMC Health Services Division. “Mark’s experience at UPMC East and UPMC McKeesport, as well as his leadership, business acumen and ability to build relationships will provide a smooth transition and ensure a bright future for both UPMC East and UPMC McKeesport.”
O’Hern, a Murrysville resident, will dedicate full attention to leadership of UPMC East in Monroeville and UPMC McKeesport in the Mon Valley region. He has been vice president of operations at the hospitals since 2014, where he has overseen daily operations.
“We take great pride in our long history of providing high-quality, compassionate care for the many diverse communities we serve and continue to invest to our hospitals and services to ensure that our patients receive the expert care they need right in their own communities,” said O’Hern.
O’Hern previously served as executive director of Children’s Community Pediatrics, director of cardiovascular services for UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside and he also is co-director of the UPMC Administrative Fellowship Program.
A graduate of Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Policy Analysis and Management, he also earned a master’s degree in Health Care Administration Management and is the Immediate Past President of the Cornell University Human Ecology Alumni Association Board. Recently, he served three years as a board member for the Wilmerding/McKeesport YMCA.
