UPMC recently celebrated more than 70 breast cancer survivors from across central Pennsylvania at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center’s Health and Wellness After Breast Cancer Conference held at the Penn Harris Hotel Convention Center, Camp Hill.

During the free one-day retreat, attendees learned how to care for their body, mind and soul through focused, interactive sessions with experts on nutrition, exercise and mental and spiritual health. They also had the opportunity to experience gentle exercise, mind-body therapies and creative sessions with art and sound therapy.

“There are more than 12 million cancer survivors in the U.S. today, and thanks to advances in screening and treatment cancer, survivors are living longer than ever before,” said Katherine Barton, M.D., breast surgeon and director, Wellness and Integrative Oncology, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, UPMC in Central Pennsylvania. “Survivorship often begins with relief but also brings with it complex set of emotional, physical, and spiritual challenges. Our survivorship clinic offers survivors support for their clinical care and ensures they have access to the resources they need. This event is such a special way in which we not only celebrate our survivors but help them connect with one another and with resources that support their journey at UPMC and in the community.”

UPMC Breast Care Center Survivorship Clinic in Central Pa. provides survivors an outlet for continued support and referrals to help manage treatment and diagnosis-related side effects. Every cancer patient is enrolled into the program once diagnosed, and their care will be followed till they reach the end of treatment.
