WHAT: The UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at UPMC Passavant and Passavant Hospital Foundation present a free, virtual colon cancer prevention education and screening session.

In addition, there will be free FIT* kits for eligible participants that will be provided along with a pre-paid mailer for returning it. You qualify if you:

  • Haven’t had a colonoscopy or stool tests for many years or ever.
  • Have any kind of health insurance or no health insurance.

*The FIT test kit is a more sensitive and easier stool test done at home.

Registration is required. Visit UPMC.com/Classes. For questions or more information, call 412-748-5244.

WHY: Colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer in the U.S., but it doesn’t have to be. If everyone 45 years or older had regular screening tests, at least 60% of deaths from this cancer could be avoided.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, colorectal cancer usually starts from precancerous polyps in the colon or rectum. Over time, some polyps can turn into cancer. Screening tests can find precancerous polyps, so they can be removed before they turn into cancer.

WHEN: BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, Saturday, May 1.

WHERE: Virtual event from the comfort of your home.
