Parking

Pay parking is available for visitors in the following locations:

• Aiken Avenue Parking Garage, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week
• Centre Avenue Parking Garage, near Shadyside Medical Building, open weekdays, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; closed Sundays and holidays

Upon request, UPMC Security provides evening escort service from the hospital to your vehicle. To request a security escort, please call 412-623-2990.

Discounts for UPMC Shadyside parking garages are available to patient families. A family member parked four hours or more on one day can receive a discount by presenting the parking ticket at one of the information desks. On the 10th day of a patient’s stay, one family member is offered a discount. After 25 days or more, a multi-use free parking pass can be provided. Directions to UPMC Shadyside

From the north via Interstates 79 and 279

Take Interstate 79 South. Keep left to take Interstate 279 South via Exit 72 towards Pittsburgh. Head southwest on to Interstate 579 South (Veterans Bridge). Take the Oakland/Monroeville exit toward Interstate 376 East and merge onto Boulevard of the Allies. Continue onto Boulevard of the Allies. Take the Forbes Avenue exit, and turn left onto South Craig Street. Turn right at Centre Avenue.

From the northeast via Route 28

Take Route 28 south to the Highland Park Bridge. On the bridge, get into the left lane and take the Washington Blvd. ramp. Off the ramp, stay in the right lane. Just before the traffic light, bear right onto Washington Blvd. Drive through four traffic lights (2 miles). At the fourth traffic light, drive across Penn Ave., and straight onto Fifth Ave. Follow Fifth Ave. for 1.3 miles to S. Aiken Ave., and turn right.

From the south via Route 19 or Route 51

Take Route 19 north or Route 51 north through the Liberty Tunnels, and cross the bridge in the right lane. Follow signs to I-579, take the Bigelow Blvd. (Route 380 east) exit, and continue straight onto N. Craig St. to Centre Ave. (total of 3.2 miles). Turn left onto Centre Ave. and drive through four traffic lights (passing Morewood Ave.)

From the west via Interstate 376

Take I-376 East. Get into the right lane before entering the Fort Pitt Tunnels. When exiting the tunnel, take the exit ramp for I-376 East (Monroeville). Follow I-376 to Exit 72A (Forbes Ave./Oakland). Drive on Forbes Ave. for 1.3 miles through Oakland, and turn left on S. Craig St. (just past the Carnegie Museum of Art). Turn right onto Fifth Ave., drive 1.3 miles and turn left on S. Aiken Ave.

From the east via PA Turnpike and Interstate 376

From the Pennsylvania Turnpike, take Exit 57 (Pittsburgh/Monroeville) to I-376 west to Exit 77 (Edgewood/Swissvale). Off the exit ramp, turn right onto S. Braddock Ave. Drive about 2 miles, and turn left onto Penn Ave. Follow Penn Ave. for 1 mile to Fifth Ave., and turn left. Continue on Fifth Ave. for 1.3 miles to S. Aiken Ave and turn right.
