If you have a rash, acne, or other skin concern, UPMC has two teledermatology options to connect you with a dermatology expert:
About eDermatology
With only a few clicks, you can connect with leading dermatology experts no matter where you are in Pa.
eDermatology is for care that isn't urgent. You'll need to:
- Give your medical history.
- Share your symptoms.
- Upload photos of the main problem area.
An expert from UPMC's dermatology team will reply with health advice, a diagnosis, and a treatment plan within three business days. This plan may include:
- Sending a prescription to your pharmacy of choice.
- Ordering lab tests.
- Scheduling follow-up, if needed.
To access eDermatology, you'll need to log in to your MyUPMC portal online. (You can't access eDermatology on the MyUPMC mobile app.) You'll also need to upload at least three photos.
What are the benefits of eDermatology?
- You don't need to wait for an appointment. You can complete a request anytime online.
- You can get an answer quickly. You'll receive a response within three business days.
- The cost is just $75 (or less if you are a UPMC Health Plan member).

Video Visit with a Dermatologist
With a video visit, you can make a real-time video appointment with a dermatology expert.
Your doctor is able to do an exam much like they would in person. They'll be able to see and assess your skin concerns on video.
To start your video visit, you'll need:
- A scheduled video visit appointment.
- Your smartphone.
- The MyUPMC app.
At your appointment time, your doctor will connect with you for your video visit. They'll:
- Discuss your concerns.
- Order prescriptions or lab work.
- Schedule in-person or online follow-up visits.
What are the benefits of video visits?
- Convenience. You can do a video visit from the comfort of your home.
- Less travel time. If you live far away from a UPMC dermatologist or have trouble traveling, a virtual visit is easier.
- Cost. You won't need to pay for gas or to park. Depending on your insurance, a virtual visit may cost less than an in-person one.
Is a Teledermatology Visit Right for Me?
Doctors can diagnose many common and uncommon skin issues from a digital photo or video visit, such as:
- Acne.
- Hives.
- Moles.
- Rashes.
- Rosacea.
- Skin growths.
