Anxiety

UPMC Content 3

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a normal feeling of nervousness people have from time to time. Sometimes, however, anxiety can become so frequent or strong that it makes other parts of their lives difficult.

How is Anxiety Diagnosed?

Anxiety is diagnosed after discussions with a health care professional such as a doctor or counselor. Our Family Medicine health professionals can talk with you and evaluate your level of anxiety.

How is Anxiety Treated?

While there are some medicines that will help decrease anxiety, in many cases a person can be helped without medicine through:

  • Exercise programs
  • Stress relief programs
  • Behavioral counseling
