UPMC in Central Pa. has partnered with the Capital Area Girls on the Run council to bring this life-changing character development program to Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry county girls in third through eighth grades. The nonprofit organization's mission is to "inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running."
Girls on the Run envisions a world where all girls know their limitless potential and can navigate their lives with confidence and joy. This accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff, and the community.
Running is used to inspire and motivate girls, encourage lifelong health and fitness, and build confidence through accomplishment. At each season's conclusion, the girls and their running buddies, complete a 5k running event.
