By inserting a catheter into the groin and threading it through an artery up to a patient’s head and neck, stroke neurologists and neurosurgeons can manually remove a clot that is blocking blood flow to the brain
In this illustration, a stent on the end of the catheter retrieves the clot and blood flow is restored to the brain. This procedure may be done in conjunction with other therapies such as IV TPA medication.
